The ACT Government has announced the establishment of a new Inner South Health Centre in Griffith, set to significantly boost local healthcare services. Situated at the corner of Throsby Crescent and Throsby Lane, next to the Griffith Shops, this centre is one of four new health facilities planned for the region.
As part of the initial stages, the government has opened consultations to gather community input on the types of services the new centre should offer. This feedback will be pivotal in shaping the healthcare offerings tailored to meet the needs of the Griffith community.
This initiative follows the successful opening of the Molonglo Health Centre in 2022, which provides dedicated women’s and family healthcare services. The new Inner South Health Centre will complement existing healthcare services within Canberra’s public health system, including nurse-led walk-in centres and public hospitals.
In the recent 2024–25 Budget, the ACT Government allocated $52.8 million over four years. This funding will facilitate the construction of the new health centres in North Gungahlin and the Inner South, as well as the design phase for the West Belconnen centre. This financial commitment underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services across the ACT.
The new Inner South Health Centre aims to integrate seamlessly with existing facilities, ensuring a comprehensive and cohesive healthcare system for Canberra residents. The centre’s development is part of a broader strategy to expand and improve healthcare services in the region, addressing growing community needs.
In addition to infrastructure investment, the ACT Government is also focusing on bolstering the healthcare workforce. This includes initiatives for recruitment, upskilling, and maintaining nurse and midwife-to-patient ratios, ensuring high-quality care for all patients.
