Billy Joel’s daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, has spoken out with a message of encouragement following her father’s recent health announcement.
On Sunday, May 25, Alexa took to Instagram to thank fans for their support after Billy Joel revealed he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain disorder. She posted a touching black-and-white drawing of a father holding his daughter’s hand and wrote, “SOUND UP 🕊️ We love you and we got you, Pop!”
Alexa expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and shared her confidence in her father’s resilience. “My Dad is the strongest and most resilient man I’ve ever known,” she said. “He is fully committed to making a full recovery with ongoing physical therapy as he regains his strength.”
Last week, Joel announced he would cancel all upcoming shows due to complications from NPH. The condition has worsened after recent concerts, causing issues with his hearing, vision, and balance. Following his doctor’s advice, Billy is focusing on physical therapy and will not perform during his recovery.
This pause affects his scheduled performances throughout summer and fall 2025, as well as early 2026, including joint tours with Sting, Rod Stewart, and Stevie Nicks.
Alexa ended her message with a heartfelt quote from one of her father’s songs, “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel),” from his 1993 album River of Dreams:
“‘Someday We’ll All Be Gone / But Lullabies Go On And On / They Never Die / That’s How You And I Will Be.’ ⚓️ The music continues…”
Alexa Ray Joel is a talented singer, songwriter, and pianist. She has performed alongside her father, including during his famous residency at Madison Square Garden.
Christie Brinkley, Alexa’s mother and Billy Joel’s ex-wife, also shared her support on Instagram on May 24. She sent “lots of love and good wishes for a full and speedy recovery” and urged Billy to take care of himself. “We all want you back in that white hot spotlight, you’re OUR piano man,” she wrote.
Fans continue to send their best wishes as Billy Joel focuses on healing and recovery.
