Massachusetts Father Honors Daughter, Raises Mental Health Awareness

by Shreeya

A father from Massachusetts is using music to honor his daughter and raise awareness about mental health struggles. Marcel Roston lost his daughter, Chloe, to suicide ten years ago when she was just 17 years old. On Father’s Day, he shared his story and hopes to remind others that they are not alone.

Marcel describes Chloe as the light of his life and says nothing can replace her. To express his feelings of grief, loss, and helplessness, he wrote a country song called “Learn It, Love It, Leave It.”

“This song helped me talk about the emotions I felt after losing my daughter,” Marcel told 7NEWS.

He says Chloe taught him resilience and unconditional love. Though he still struggles to understand why she took her own life, Marcel wants others who have lost someone to suicide to know they are not alone.

“My advice is to embrace your healing journey,” he said. “Remember the good times just as much as the bad.”

For those facing mental health challenges, Marcel offers a message of hope: “Tomorrow needs you.” These are words he wishes he could say to his daughter.

Through his music and message, Marcel hopes to bring comfort and support to families affected by suicide and encourage people to seek help when they need it.
