Health officials have issued a warning about a possible measles outbreak at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
A passenger arriving on an international flight tested positive for measles, one of the most contagious diseases in the world. This comes amid a growing spread of the illness across the United States.
The traveler was at the airport on June 8, moving through Concourse A, taking airport transport to the International Arrivals Building, and visiting the baggage claim area between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
They also used public transit that day, riding the Washington Metro Silver Line train from Dulles Airport station and transferring to the Red Line toward Shady Grove station between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
People who were at these locations during those times are urged to check their measles vaccination status. Those not vaccinated or unsure should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
So far in 2025, Virginia has reported three cases of measles, including one linked to another traveler at Dulles Airport. Meanwhile, Texas is facing a large outbreak with nearly 800 cases and two child deaths.
Experts warn that falling vaccination rates across the country increase the risk of more measles outbreaks. Health officials stress the importance of vaccination to protect individuals and communities from this highly infectious disease.
