Testosterone is known as the main male hormone linked to strength and energy. But its effects on mood, thinking, and behavior, especially in men with ADHD, are not well understood. Research on testosterone’s role in ADHD is very limited and shows no clear connection.
While estrogen’s impact on mood and focus is better known-especially in women with ADHD-testosterone’s influence remains unclear. Some studies have looked at whether high testosterone before birth might increase ADHD risk, but results are mixed.
No solid research shows that testosterone levels affect how severe ADHD symptoms are. Studies on testosterone’s link to depression and aggression also have mixed or unclear results.
Testosterone levels change a lot during puberty and slowly drop after age 40. These changes affect physical traits like muscle growth and voice deepening but how they relate to ADHD is still a mystery.
In short, scientists don’t yet know if testosterone plays a role in ADHD. More research is needed to understand any possible connection.
