A new study shows that following a Mediterranean diet could lower the risk of breast cancer by 13%, especially for women after menopause.
Researchers looked at 31 studies from around the world. They found that women who ate lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and olive oil had a lower chance of getting breast cancer. The biggest benefits were seen in older women, while younger women did not see much change.
The study also found that women in Asia had the strongest results, with European women seeing some benefit. In North America, the link between diet and breast cancer was weaker.
Alcohol, sometimes part of the Mediterranean diet, made a difference too. When alcohol was not included, the diet seemed even better at reducing cancer risk.
While the results are promising, scientists say more research is needed. Still, the Mediterranean diet is a healthy choice and may help prevent breast cancer.
