Nutritionist Aswini Selvaraj shared valuable insights on Instagram on May 23, highlighting the benefits of certain seeds that can help with weight loss and hormonal balance. According to her, these seeds can address issues like irregular periods, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), mood swings, bloating, and stubborn belly fat.

Selvaraj emphasized the importance of these seeds, which are not just fat burners or green juices. She recommended four “game-changing” seeds that every woman should consider incorporating into their diet:
Flax Seeds

Selvaraj explained that flax seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and lignans. These nutrients help reduce estrogen dominance, which can cause weight gain and painful periods. She suggested consuming flax seeds from day 1 to day 14 of the menstrual cycle. They can be added to curd, smoothies, or simply taken with water.

These seeds are high in zinc and magnesium. Selvaraj noted that they can help reduce hormonal acne and mood swings, and also boost progesterone levels. Like flax seeds, they are best consumed from day 1 to day 14. They can be roasted, crushed, or added to chutneys.

Sunflower Seeds

Selvaraj described sunflower seeds as a “PMS support hero.” They help flush excess estrogen during the second half of the cycle (day 15 to day 28) and can reduce bloating, breast tenderness, and irritability. She recommended having sunflower seeds after lunch.

Sesame Seeds

These seeds are rich in calcium, zinc, and healthy fats. Selvaraj said they support progesterone and reduce inflammation during days 15 to 28 of the cycle. They are great for balancing hormones, especially during PMS. They can be added to sweets like laddoos, chutneys, or sprinkled on vegetables.

Selvaraj concluded by explaining the concept of “seed cycling.” She suggested pairing flax seeds and pumpkin seeds from day 1 to day 14, and sunflower seeds and sesame seeds from day 15 to day 28.

She emphasized that this practice can work wonders for balancing hormones and reducing PCOS-related weight gain when done correctly. She noted that this is not a diet but a way to heal hormones from within. When combined with the right physical activity, it can help naturally eliminate PCOS-related weight.
